1. David lives in a concentration

2. David escapes from the camp and finds a bundle of food, bread, soap and a compass.

3. David hitches a ride to Salonika (Thessaloniki)

4. Sneaks on a ship to Italy.

5. Gets caught eating some bread and drinking wine by a sailor, but the sailor doesn’t turn him in.

6. Sailor helps David get off ship in Italy without anyone else seeing

7. David finds out how beautiful it is on the coast of Italy

8. He drops compass in water and starts believing in God to help him navigate his way to freedom.

9. Gets beat up by a boy named Carlo

10. David saves Carlo’s sister, Maria, from a burning shed.

11. David lives with the family for a while. David leaves because he doesn’t fit in because he has a hatred for Carlo

12. He sees an advertisment in a newspaper that says “David, please come back!” and David writes a letter to Carlo saying he is sorry that David hates him

13. David sneaks across Switzerland border

14. He meets someone named Sophie Bang and she paints David and he sees a picture of his mum in her house (on a book)

15. David is “rescued” by a farmer who makes him sleep in the barn and work for him

16. David escapes from the barn and the dog, King, follows him

17. David travels through Germany and finds a barrack of soldiers

18. King distracts the soldiers and gets killed while David sneaks away

19. David travels to Denmark to find his mum

20. David finds a phonebook and searches his mum and goes to her house and they reunite.
