This dialogue is a re-written ending of I am David

 

 

 

(David slowly staggers to the door and knocks three times).

 

(Knock..Knock…..Knock).

 

David:   Bonjoir, Je’Mapple David (coughing).

 

David’s mum:   Are you okay?

 

David:   Yes…I’m all right.

 

David:   I have a letter for you.

 

David’s mum:   Thankyou, David.

 

(David’s mum reads letter).

 

(They both hear the dense stamping of military boots).

 

David’s mum:   David! Quickly come inside!

 

David’s mum:   We have to hide! In the attic.

 

David:   Yes, ok (frightened).

 

(They scurry up to the attic).

 

David’s mum:   I’m sorry David, I don’t know why they are around.

 

David’s mum:   How old are you David?

 

David:   I’m 12 why do you ask?

 

David’s mum:   I was just wondering.

 

(David is exhausted and confused at this time).

 

David:   Oh, ok.

 

David’s mum:   Where are you from David.

 

David:   I escaped…oh it doesn’t matter.

 

(David does not want to tell the truth).

 

(David’s mum sensed David’s distress).

 

David’s mum:   I tell you what David, I’ll get us some afternoon tea.

 

David:   What about the soldiers?

 

David’s mum:   They would have gone by now.

 

David:   I’ll…I will come down with you.

 

(Mum walks down the attic stairs, ahead of David).

 

(There is silence).

 

(David’s mum goes to scream but stops herself as there is three soldiers standing with their weapons).

 

David’s mum:   Ah…

 

David’s mum:   David stay there, I just wanted to tell you…

 

(Bang).

 

David’s mum:   That … ahhhh.

 

(Drops to ground).
